In the same vein as Maximum Starbucks Density, Weather Sealed brings us the McFarthest Spot – the point in the continental US furthest from a McDonald’s restaurant.

Having just finished reading Eats, Shoots & Leaves, I will now be experimenting with adding an obnoxious amount of commas, semi-colons & colons to my sentences, as demonstrated in the previous post. Feel enjoy! 🙂

overconsumption or overpopulation

leave a comment »

The New Scientist has an article up claiming that overconsumption rather than overpopulation is the root of global problems.

It’s an interesting read, but I have to doubt their math skills when they claim that, “There is no exponential growth.” Even by their numbers there are an average of 2.6 children being born to each female. Replacement rate is 2.3, so even 2.301 would be exponential growth. They argue that the number will keep going down; I would argue that it must go down one way or the other: even 2.301 is unsustainable in the long run.

glaciers from space and dust down under

Some very nice pictures of glaciers taken from space. Love the pics, hate the one pic per page slideshow.

A flickr page of photos from this week’s dust storm in Australia.
