There’s been a tempest raging in Washington D.C.’s tiniest teacup over some remarks that Obama’s economic advisor made that had Bob Woodward, the Nixon-slayer, quaking in his polished shoes. In an earlier life, Woodward had written a biography of John Belushi. The guy who came along later to do the same task, only competently, has an interesting description of Woodward’s modus operandi:

Whenever people ask me about John Belushi and the subject of Wired comes up, I say it’s like someone wrote a biography of Michael Jordan in which all the stats and scores are correct, but you come away with the impression that Michael Jordan wasn’t very good at playing basketball.

“I forgot that I’d licensed them to use this song. And this is one of those things that comes to you in the mail and you don’t know what they’re talking about and you simply give them their permission. You’re sitting in the movie theater and there’s this great moment when Gwyneth Paltrow is coming out of a bus or something like that. I’m thinking to myself, I used to play the guitar just like that. And then the voice comes on and it’s Nico singing ‘These Days’, which I played on.”
